Costume Internship – Fall 2024

The Costume Intern will have the opportunity to work directly with our Theater Director to create the costume design for our Young Performers Theater’s fall musical. The Costume Intern will have full access to our costume storage and costume shop, and in addition will have responsibility to maintain organization in both locations. They will take lead on all parts of the costuming process from research to sketches/reference images to communication with families of students involved to creation and performance.

Position Title: Costume Internship


Duration of Position: October 1 - December 11, 2024

Duties Include:

  • Creating costume designs for every actor in the production.
  • Communicating costume designs to the actor and their family.
  • Working with families to complete costume pieces from a combination of our stock, what families may be able to provide, and purchasing/altering/constructing new pieces.
  • Attending all YPT Production Meetings.
  • Scheduling fittings as needed.
  • Teaching introductory concepts in costume design and/or construction to our tech crew students.
  • Maintaining theatrical make-up and hair supply stock. In consultation with the director, planning make-up and hair for the show as needed. Ensuring that actors are able to execute the design for performances.
  • Organizing backstage dressing rooms for actors and being wardrobe support during all shows.
  • Laundering and returning costume pieces to storage after productions and maintaining organization in costume storage and restocking supplies in the costume shop. 

What is provided: 

  • Stipend of $2,400
  • Roundtrip airfare to Sitka
  • Room on campus from October 1 - December 11
  • Breakfast and lunch in Campus Dining Hall Monday-Friday
  • Free attendance to all campus events 
  • Access to the Hames Center (on-campus fitness facility)

Requirements:

  • Interested in working with young people ages 7-18
  • Well-organized and a strong communicator
  • Knowledgeable in theatrical costume design
  • Resourceful and willing to work with limited resources
  • A strong collaborator who is also able to work independently
  • Willing to help out with additional small tasks outside of costuming as they arise
